In this interview, Elena shares insights into her professional evolution, the challenges she has overcome, and the moments that have defined her career. Her experiences offer a glimpse into the dynamic world of iPS, where innovation and people-centric values create an environment where individuals and teams thrive.
Q: Can you tell us about your journey with iPS Powerful People over the past ten years? How has your role evolved during this time?
Elena Ionita: I joined iPS in November 2014 as a Payroll Officer, starting with a significant tunneling project in the UK at Victoria Station. This project involved managing weekly payroll for hundreds of employees, which kept me busy and sharp. After the project was completed, I embraced opportunities to work on other projects and expanded my expertise to cover various payroll types beyond the Dutch system.
As iPS grew and took on projects in new countries, I found myself captivated by the diversity and challenges each new endeavor presented. This dynamic environment kept my work both engaging and fulfilling.
Q: What do you believe are the most significant changes or developments you’ve witnessed within iPS Powerful People since you joined?
Elena Ionita: At iPS, change is constant! Even during quieter moments, our Commercial department is busy preparing for the next big project. Over the years, we’ve embraced transformation in every aspect of our work.
For example, we’ve gone from scanning documents monthly and maintaining a large physical archive to operating completely paperless with digital folders. Flexible working has also become second nature, a shift driven by the pandemic. What once seemed unimaginable—working remotely—is now the norm.
Communication with candidates has also become smoother. Previously, contacting them could be a challenge due to roaming or internet issues. Now, a simple email or message makes it effortless.
Q: Can you share a particularly challenging project or situation you’ve faced during your time here, and how you overcame it?
Elena Ionita: One of the most rewarding challenges was our system update in January 2023. After months of collaboration across departments, we successfully launched a new, tailor-made system along with a candidate portal.
This platform has been a game-changer, enabling candidates to submit hours and expenses with ease while streamlining our payroll workflow. It’s a testament to teamwork and innovation, showcasing how we can overcome challenges together to achieve remarkable results.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at iPS Powerful People, and what keeps you motivated after 10 years?
Elena Ionita: I love the incredible diversity at iPS—both in the global scope of our projects and the amazing colleagues I work with. Despite being spread across different corners of the world, we collaborate seamlessly to provide the best care for our candidates and clients.
Watching our teams grow from just a few people to thriving groups fills me with pride. Being part of that journey, even in a small way, motivates me every day.
Q: Have you had opportunities for professional development or advancement within the company? If so, can you elaborate on those experiences?
Elena Ionita: Absolutely. I started as a Payroll Officer and gradually moved into a managerial role. Along the way, I worked with incredibly talented colleagues who taught me so much.
Over time, I realized I had become the person others turn to for support—a role I cherish deeply. It’s been a fulfilling journey of growth and learning.
Q: In your opinion, what sets this company apart from others in the industry, and why do you choose to continue your career here?
Elena Ionita: The company’s drive and vision are truly inspiring. At iPS, we are committed to delivering on our promises, always going the extra mile to find the best solutions for our clients and candidates.
As someone who loves connecting with people, I find it incredibly rewarding to listen to their stories, offer support, and make a meaningful impact. iPS is a company that puts people at its core, and that’s why I choose to stay.
Q: Can you share a memorable achievement or success story from your time at the company?
Elena Ionita: The candidate portal is one of our greatest achievements. In the early days, we relied on timesheets arriving by post, which could take days. Later, email sped up the process but still required extensive manual input.
Now, with the portal, everything is centralized and streamlined. Timesheets and expenses are submitted directly, allowing us to start payroll almost immediately. It’s revolutionized our workflow and prepared us for future projects.
Q: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations or goals for the future within iPS Powerful People?
Elena Ionita: I feel confident in my team and the work we do together. Moving forward, I’m excited about exploring new projects and tackling different types of payroll systems that will be introduced in 2025.
There’s still so much to learn and achieve, but with this team, I’m confident we can accomplish it all.
