The Day of the Seafarer is celebrated annually on June 25th, and in 2025, it carries a particularly powerful message under the theme “My Harassment-Free Ship”.
What is the Day of the Seafarer?
Established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2010, this day honors the vital contributions of seafarers—men and women who work aboard ships transporting goods and passengers across the globe. Around 90% of world trade is carried by sea, making seafarers essential to the global economy.
2025 Theme: “My Harassment-Free Ship”
This year’s campaign focuses on creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment at sea, addressing the serious issue of harassment and bullying in the maritime industry.
Key goals of the campaign include:
- Promoting zero-tolerance policies for harassment.
- Encouraging reporting and accountability.
- Providing resources and support for seafarers.
- Launching an Interactive World Map to help seafarers find support by flag state.
Why it matters
Seafarers often face:
- Long periods away from home.
- Harsh working conditions.
- Mental health challenges.
- Discrimination and harassment.
This day not only celebrates their dedication but also advocates for better working conditions, mental
health support, and fair treatment.
We want to thank everyone involved and appreciate all the support on the waters. To all our professionals and seafarers worldwide: Thank you for your unwavering commitment, your strength during long voyages, and your essential role in keeping the world moving.
