VaarKracht Foundation will be celebrating their 12.5 years milestone in 2025.
In September 2012, Lieke Idsinga and Robert Rust, two watersport enthusiasts, started this Foundation under the name Nautisch Fonds Kankerpatiënten Nederland, two years later the name was changed to VaarKracht.
It All began when Lieke and Robert realized that Cancer patients are missing small experiences of joy that can lighten their difficult period. This is where they decided to share the joy by inviting their friends with boats to take cancer patients on carefree outings in the Gooi, Vecht, and Eemland. With the help of volunteers, sponsors, donations, and foundations VaarKracht has since provided Cancer patients and their loved ones with an unforgettable experience on the water.
As the years went by, VaarKracth Foundation continued to grow and started receiving requests to offer trips beyond Gooi, Vecht and Eemland. VaarKracth began hosting an average of 1.500 guests annually for private or group sailing trips across the country.
It was not always easy, as the Covid-19 period hit, the foundation was unable to operate and faced challenges to re-engaging its volunteers and the enthusiasm among boat owners, however, with every setback there is a comeback, this is also the case for VaarKracht, as the idea for a floating and accessible space for families and caregivers was born. The Waterhouse was launched in 2023 offering stays and trips in various parts of the Netherlands.
VaarKracht is approaching their 12.5 years anniversary in 2025, and the foundation is looking forward to celebrating this milestone with extra special sailing program and varied experience focusing on their guests. VaarKracht will also be introducing Vaarkracht Friends Club where individuals and organizations can join and assist the foundation by utilizing their network, media coverage or with financial support.
