A full-time Mechanical Engineer role in the maritime sector, focused on shipbuilding projects from design to delivery. The position requires hands-on involvement in engineering, production, and project coordination. Candidates must already live in the Netherlands and speak Dutch.
Function description
The Mechanical Engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on the design, engineering, and construction of maritime vessels and equipment. This includes both new builds and modifications to existing vessels. The engineer will be involved in every phase of the shipbuilding process—from concept and basic engineering to detailed engineering and production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating system designs (PFDs) based on operational requirements.
- Preparing equipment and system specifications.
- Producing mechanical engineering drawings and calculations (diagrams, arrangements, etc.).
- Using 2D/3D CAD software such as AutoCAD and Cadmatic.
- Supervising subcontractors when needed.
- Ensuring compliance with class regulations and safety standards.
- Collaborating with engineers, product specialists, and other departments.
- Monitoring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager.
The role offers a dynamic work environment with short communication lines between engineering and production, allowing for close involvement in the manufacturing process.
Requirements
- Must already live in the Netherlands (job location is Hardinxveld-Giessendam).
- Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written).
- MBO or HBO degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Cadmatic (2D/3D CAD software).
- Strong interest in ships and maritime equipment.
- Practical, hands-on mentality.
- Able to work independently and in a team.
- Good planning and communication skills.
- Able to work under time pressure and report deviations promptly.
