Short description
A Carousel/Tensioner Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring machinery used to manage the winding, unwinding, and tensioning of materials such as cables, wires, or fibers. This role is critical in offshore cable lay and pipelay operations, ensuring smooth material handling, optimal tension, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Function description
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate carousel and tensioning equipment to manage the flow and tension of cables, wires, or fibers during installation or transportation.
- Monitor spooling systems to ensure proper alignment, tension, and material integrity.
- Adjust machine settings to accommodate different material types, thicknesses, and operational conditions.
- Inspect materials for defects or damage caused by improper tension or handling.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on carousel and tensioner systems.
- Ensure equipment calibration and functionality according to operational specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of machine settings, processed materials, and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with offshore teams to meet project timelines and quality standards.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and operational procedures in offshore and marine environments.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in machinery operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating carousel, tensioner, or similar equipment in offshore cable lay, pipelay, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of tensioning, winding, and material handling processes.
- Mechanical or technical background is advantageous.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Certifications:
- Previous experience in offshore cable lay or pipelay operations.
- Experience with carousel, tensioner, and spooling systems.
- BOSIET with CA-EBS (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training).
- GWO (Global Wind Organisation) Training (for offshore wind projects).
- STCW Certifications (for marine operations).
- Seafarer Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
- Valid Seaman’s Book.
