Short description
A Tensioner Operator is responsible for managing the tension of materials such as cables, wires, or fibers during production, installation, or transportation. This role involves adjusting the tensioner to maintain optimal material flow, preventing breakage, and ensuring smooth operation across the production process, particularly in offshore or marine environments.
Function description
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor tensioning equipment to ensure materials (such as cables, wires, or ropes) maintain the proper tension throughout the manufacturing or installation process.
- Adjust the tension on the machine to accommodate different material types and thicknesses.
- Inspect materials for defects, inconsistencies, or damage caused by incorrect tension.
- Ensure that the equipment is properly calibrated and functioning according to specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on tensioning equipment to keep it in optimal working condition.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices while handling materials and machinery.
- Work closely with other production teams to meet production schedules and material quality standards.
- Report any issues with the equipment, materials, or process to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or vocational courses in machinery operation are advantageous.
- Experience operating tensioning or similar equipment in a manufacturing, construction, or cable production environment.
- Strong understanding of material handling, tensioning, and winding processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
Requirements
- Previous experience in offshore cable lay or pipelay operations.
- Experience with carousel, tensioner, and spooling systems.
- BOSIET with CA-EBS (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training).
- GWO (Global Wind Organisation) Training (for offshore wind projects).
- STCW Certifications (for marine operations).
- Seafarer Medical Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
- Valid Seaman’s Book.
- Mechanical or technical background (preferred).
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
