Short description
We’re looking for a hands-on Chief Engineer to join a high-tech LNG bunker vessel operating between the ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. You’ll be responsible for the technical operation of advanced LNG systems and hybrid propulsion on a vessel designed for inland waters only.
Function description
As Chief Engineer aboard one of Europe’s most advanced LNG bunker vessels, you’ll be responsible for the technical management of all onboard systems. This includes hybrid-electric propulsion, LNG cargo pumps, diesel and gas generators, thrusters, cooling compressors, and battery packs.
The vessel operates exclusively on inland waterways between Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. You’ll work closely with the onboard team to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations, with a strong focus on preventive maintenance and energy optimization.
Although the vessel is certified for safe manning without an engineer, company policy ensures a Chief Engineer is always present due to the complexity of the onboard systems. Experience with LNG systems and liquefied gas handling is essential, as you’ll play a key role in supporting bunkering operations and maintaining critical safety standards.
This is a full-time position with a fixed rotation schedule. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking team committed to clean energy and technical excellence.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, you combine technical expertise with a practical mindset. You’re confident working with advanced LNG systems and understand the dynamics of inland shipping. We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Proven experience as Chief Engineer or similar role, ideally with LNG or hybrid propulsion systems
- Strong understanding of diesel and gas generators, thrusters, compressors, and electrical systems
- STCW A-V/1.2.1 – Liquefied Gas Tanker and STCW A-V/1.2.2 – Advanced training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations
- A valid engineering license, ability to work independently, and readiness for a fixed rotation schedule
- A proactive approach to preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational safety
