Planning for your next offshore trip? Here’s expert advice on what to pack:
- Essentials:
Seasick tablets, shower gel, toothpaste, etc. Consider bringing your own duvet cover and sheets for added comfort.
- Baggage:
Opt for a couple of gym bags instead of suitcases, as choppers prefer them. Avoid bags with wheels. Pack one for your PPE and another for clothes.
- Clothing:
Ensure you have at least 4 days’ worth of underwear and spare clothes, as laundry items can go missing. Include gym gear and spare trainers if you plan to use the gym.
- Electronics:
Bring your iPad, phone, laptop, but declare them during check-in. Test electronics offshore before charging. Note: Devices are not allowed outside the plant.
- Medications:
Declare any medications at check-in, including vitamins or bodybuilding supplements.
- Onboard Purchases:
Carry some cash for onboard purchases at the bond shop, offering snacks, toiletries, and other essentials.
- Health and Comfort:
Consider carrying electrolyte drinks, sun cream, and moisturizers for outdoor activities. Purchase high-quality items like safety gear and flashlights if needed.
- Personal Effects:
Bring an address book, personal photos, and other comforting items for a homely touch. Consider language barriers when interacting with colleagues.
- Hygiene and Comfort Items:
Pack basic hygiene items, comfy pajamas, indoor shoes, and entertainment options like books, podcasts, and music.
- Weather Preparedness:
Include a light jacket or sweater for colder living quarters. Be prepared for varying temperatures onboard.
- Motion Sickness Prevention:
If prone to motion sickness, consider anti-nausea medication. Stock up on podcasts and offline entertainment due to limited internet access.
- Additional Supplies:
Carry extra medicine, shower shoes, towels, and snacks. Avoid chocolate snacks due to melting concerns.
