Short description

The Director – Tax will lead the strategic development, implementation, and effective administration of all corporate tax returns and filings for federal, state, and provincial income tax returns in compliance with all applicable tax laws. The position is responsible for effectively directing global tax management for the organization, supervising, and directing all tax related initiatives, including identifying any risk issues and tax liabilities in order to minimize tax liability and exposure for the organization.

Function description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures strategic development and implementation of corporate tax strategy, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Directs the development and administration of foreign tax compliance.
  • Approves final preparation and calculation of corporate estimated tax.
  • Directs the tax rate calculation initiatives.
  • Directs the development of tax audit plans and ensures effective execution of all corporate tax audits.
  • Approves federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Reviews and approves quarterly and annual tax projections; strategically analyzing the company’s tax position and providing counsel to senior executives regarding tax liabilities and risk.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with outside CPAs on corporate tax impacts and tax exposure relating to foreign operations.
  • Provides strategic planning and recommendations to executive management regarding all tax-related issues.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all tax laws affecting the organization; apprises executive team of implications.
  • Establishes and measures the achievement of the goals, priorities, and standards of the Tax Department.
  • Develops strategic tax policies, systems, and procedures as needed to improve performance.
  • Develops and implements means to achieve effective communication, coordination of effort, and information flow.
  • Directs personnel to ensure projects and tasks identified are completed as necessary for business conditions and the Tax department has the appropriate resources.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested by management.

Skills & Experience

  • Working experience in the offshore drilling industry is preferred.
  • Global or multinational project management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and country Tax compliance regulations.
  • J D Edwards and Hyperion experience is preferred.
  • RIA/BNA/IBFD tax research services experience preferred.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent detailed analytical and quantitative skills.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, MBA from accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive tax management within a multinational organization.
  • Minimum 4 years of management experience.
