Senior Onshore Export Cable Installation Engineer

Short description

The Senior Onshore Cable Installation Engineer is responsible for the scope management related to the installation of export cables onshore from and including the Transition Joint Bay (TJB). Management of this scope is performed following PMI methodology, company requirements, best practices, policies and guidelines

Function description

  • Plan, de-risk and execute the scope to ensure that it is delivered on time and within budget with the right quality.
  • Prioritize work within the scope and the team
  • Facilitate cross discipline cooperation (Interface Management)
  • Perform scope decision based on recommendations
  • NCR’s and Lessons Learned are properly registered into Synergi
  • Ensure that Change Requests and Variation Orders and claims are properly assessed, communicated and managed together with relevant stakeholders
  • Comply with company’s guidelines and current standards, i.e., ISO9001, Way We Work (IMS) requirements as well as good engineering practice and local requirements
  • Ensure hand-over of agreed documentation to O&M and/or OFTO

Expectable tasks / activities may include:

  • Lead, own and deliver the contract (s) for Onshore Cable Installation.
  • Collaborate with the wider support team of schedulers, risk managers, contract managers, scope leaders for other allied and inter-related scopes.
  • Manage consultants, contractors / third parties / internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface engagement with internal stakeholders i.e.: Offshore Cable Installation, Site Investigation, Export Cable Supply, Quality Assurance, Health, Safety and Environment, other teams within Engineering Procurement and Construction, and the Onshore Converter station teams.
  • Review, understand and ensure adherence of the scope to the applicable permits and consents.
  • Provide technical input for any additional site investigation requirements.
  • Review and understand and critique existing design for onshore cable routes.
  • Review and understand and critique existing engineering feasibility studies.
  • Review, understand and critique Cable route & HDD optioneering, assessment and selection.
  • Review, understand and critique Define route / HDD design parameters.
  • Provide costing updates / budgetary estimates for the onshore contracts.
  • Provide identification, quantification and assessment of project risk.
  • Develop, review and update project time schedules.
  • Involvement in procurement process for main and secondary contracts within Onshore cable routing.
  • New supplier identification, evaluation and recommendation.
  • Register NCR’s and LL in Synergi according to specified method
  • Provide technical inputs to Change Requests, VO’s and Claims
  • Review of technical procedures from Supplier and ensure verification and validation of product quality controls (QA/QC)
  • Manage on site Supervisors.
  • Manage Contractor’s design output.
  • Technical review and acceptance of onshore cable route design prior to agreement with supplier.
  • Identify, track and implement innovations relating to scope.
  • Prepare Technical Notes relating to scope.
  • Create project specific documents such as technical requirements

  • Responsible for the scope management related to the installation of export cables

People skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong in communication to be able to collaborate with stakeholder at all levels

Technical skills

  • Strong Project Management skills and good understanding of contract and cable installation


Requirements

  • BSc Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferably practical experience within onshore export cable installation including HDD
  • Passionate about QHSE with demonstrable track record of delivery of similar / allied scopes.
  • Possesses the skills of a good Engineer (technically skilled, integrity, communication, adaptability, teamwork and decision making). Passionate about high quality project management and safe delivery of quality projects on time and on budget.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
